I honestly get kinda creeped out when people I know, or even people I’m friends/friendly with, post and share sexist things on social media. It’s like a wake-up call that the bigotry is closer than I realized. In my mind New York, especially and specifically NYC is rather liberal and I expect a higher caliber of knowledge and even exposure of feminism here. Obviously different neighborhoods have different concerns, but it’s surprises me that sometimes these people not only agree with but feel the need to tell other people about these highly sexist websites. I mean, this is 2014 and women have been getting closer and closer to the dream. When half of the people you know are women, why would you want to share something that tells them they’re inferior beings? Why are some women comfortable or okay with it? I even see them liking them and commenting on it with amusement? I know it’s naive and narrow-minded of me to think that everyone should think the way I do. In many other ways I obviously enjoy diversity of thought. But when it comes to sexism I just refuse to be okay with people thinking that I am insignificant and do not deserve basic rights and respect. A lot of times I hold my tongue… but shit is it getting hard to do that.
if you’re sad, hug a tree. lay with the grass. talk to the moon. let the sun warm your skin. feel the dirt beneath your feet. appreciate the color of the sky, the smell of the flowers. make love to the earth.

I’m trying not to get offended by the little things but it’s getting really hard especially when all the things are little things.
